Submarine exploration is critical to marine research, military operations, and underwater resource management. Efficient and reliable communication, observation, and surveillance in underwater environments are paramount for the success of these missions. This PhD thesis proposal outlines a comprehensive study aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning to enhance submarine exploration, focusing on improving remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) positioning for enhanced communication, observation, and surveillance capabilities.
